At The Garden Gate, we install artificial turf in in Tucson, Marana, and Oro Valley. On a new construction project, the landscape plan will identify the location of the artificial turf, and specify the turf and border material selected. If you want year-round green space without mowing or watering, artificial turf is the way to go.
For existing homes, we provide the same service and identify existing landscape features that need to be removed to create space for the artificial turf. We can integrate your artificial turf project into new construction projects or upgrade existing yards that already include pools, patios, paths, plants, irrigation and lighting system and more.

Every plan is buildable, HOA-ready, andpriced accurately from day one.
Ourcustom front and backyard designs can include:
Sonoran Desert-friendlyor specialty plants, grouped for water efficiency, with drip irrigation and decorative screened rock.
We integrate smart controls, salt-water chlorination systems, color-changinglights, and integrated water walls or bubblers, as well as Baja shelves (alsocalled a tanning ledge or “lagoon” locally), umbrellas, and swim-up bars orin-pool tables and seating.
FromBBQ islands designed for resale value to full outdoor kitchens forentertaining, we place grills, griddles, and pizza ovens to fit the flow ofyour backyard. If you like to entertain, a fire feature adds seating and afocal point.
Code-compliantpool fencing that preserves views, custom steel pergolas and shade structuresfor comfort from the desert sun, trellises to guide vines or screen views, andmetal gates for privacy and security—all integrated into the design.
Our turnkey approach todesign and installation can also include patios, driveways, walkways, retainingwalls, seating walls, and screen walls to hide mechanical equipment (like apool pump), planned with drainage and access in mind.
Path, up-lighting,and down-lighting designed to highlight plants and architecture, creatingambiance.
Year-round,low-maintenance grass solutions for play areas, pets, or entertainment spaces.
Gas,electric, irrigation, and lighting systems are coordinated into one cohesivebuild.
AutoCADdrawings and 3D renderings that ensure accuracy, clarity, and confidence.
Artificial turf (or, “synthetic turf”) isn’t just a grass replacement—it’s a design feature selected for the way you and your family use your yard.
This is a multi-purpose surface that is child and pet-friendly, and can be used by all members of the family, year-round.
Custom shaped putting greens with cups, flags and fringed chipping areas can be designed for any level of experience and even include sand bunkers.
Decorative turf placed between travertine or porcelain pavers promote clean lines with a splash of color and define the area.
We have specialized pet turf that can be placed in dog runs, on patio decks, or larger spaces.
UV resistance artificial grass looks like and performs like natural grass, but without the watering and maintenance required of real grass. We install turf that is designed for its durability, authentic look and longevity. The turf blades have an unique “S,” V,” and “W” shape that make it look realistic, and also helps improve air flow (great for cooling).
Everything gets hot in the summer including synthetic grass. One simple way to cool off your grass and patio space is with a water hose. Spraying water on the grass cools the surface blades and the Zeo-Fill (a filler material we place in the grass) absorbs the water, gradually releasing the moisture through evaporation.
There are several innovative cooling technologies for artificial grass that have been developed recently to address heat issues associated with synthetic turf, such as heat reflective grass and different color pigments to reduce heat absorption.
Drainage is always a consideration when designing a landscape or turf project. While the turf itself has a permeable backing (drainage holes) and a permeable decomposed granite base below it, we also control surface flow to keep the grass clean and playable. In some cases, we install gutters with underground drain pipe to move the water away from turf and patio areas.
All artificial turf is UV-resistant and designed to reduce fading. Quality turf can last up to 15 years depending on foot traffic and how it is used; turf in higher use areas may last 10-15 years.
We can install artificial turf in any size needed, from a small play area to larger field. We always custom design your turf area or putting green for you, and the way you intend to use it. On larger turf areas (wider than a standard roll of turf, which is 15’ wide) or on custom shapes there will be seams. Seams can be blended together, the first step is to ensure that the grain direction is facing the same way. Then, trim the grass edges to match and adhere them together with seam tape.
Turf pile heights are typically 1.25″–1.875” for lawns and play areas, and 0.625″ for putting surfaces. Fiber blends and polyethylene blades have a texturized thatch for support, rebound, and realism. Perforated backings are multi-layered for strength and perforated for fast drainage. Anti-microbial and odor-control infill like Zeo-Fill are placed in the turf. Edging around the turf locks in the base material (decomposed granite), turf, and fringe.
Turf areas are integrated into the landscape design for new construction or your existing yard as the final piece to your project, after the landscape, pool and spa has been installed.
We provide a comprehensive artificial turf proposal that describes the turf selected, the square footage of turf provided, the border material selected, and the cost to install the turf.
The Project Coordinator orders the synthetic turf and border material, and sets the installation schedule with you. The crew leader installs the turf according to the landscape design, or the placement you approved. The Project Coordinator manages access, materials, and the schedule from start to finish.
Your project typically follows this schedule:
● Arrange access to the work area - if needed, we install underground sleeving or conduit for lighting wire, irrigation lines, and electric service to other areas of the yard
● We excavate native soil as required to set the grade and make room for the decomposed granite base
● Install the border for the turf and import then compact the decomposed granite base
● Turf is installed with the required seaming, fastening, infill application and fiber grooming
● Final walkthrough with Owner
Artificial Turf costs are primarily determined by the sizeof the turf area and the quality of the turf installed. Another major consideration is the design and layout, as a rectilinear area costs less than an organic shape where there is a significant amount of cutting, which creates waste material.
Putting green prices are affected by the same variables. In both cases the turf is enclosed with a border. A metal edge border is usually less expensive than a travertine or paver border set in a mortar bed.
Maintenance is simple: occasional power brushing to lift fibers, leaf and debris removal, and periodic rinsing. The manufacturer warranty passes through to you and we provide a 2-year workmanship warranty.
Customize your project with selected upgrades.
A few common upgrades include:
● Surface water control, gutters, drain boxes and drain pipe to capture and move water from the turf area
● LED path lighting along the turf edge
● Paths or stepping pads connecting the patio, paths, kitchen or other areas
● Update planting and irrigation systems
Designconsultations are free. Pool designs—and pool designs that include landscape—aretypically free. Stand-alone landscape designs may incur a nominal design feebased on scope. While landscape design fees can catch clients off guard, theyare critical to making sure the plan is buildable, bid properly, and that the crewsknow what to install. These highly detailed plans are also used for permitting, engineering (when required), and HOA and DRC submittals.
Yes— we specialize in turnkey landscape and pool design-build, with one point ofcontact for design and one for construction. Our team integrates pools, spas, and patios into a cohesive plan that looks intentional. Planning the entireproject from the beginning makes sure nothing is overlooked, installation isdone in the most efficient sequence, and, if the project is phased, rework islimited.
Landscapedesigns typically take 2–4 weeks; pool designs can be completed in about fivebusiness days. While most people view the pool as the more complicated element, the detail in the landscape plan is what ties the entire project togethercohesively, and why it takes more time.
Revisions are a normal part of the design process. Many times, what sounds good in conversation has a much different feel on paper. This is why the design process is so important to a successful project.

Yes. The artificial grass sold today is made from non-toxic, pet-safe materials like polyethylene or polypropylene, similar to what’s used in food containers. These materials don’t pose health risks and are often labeled lead-free and pet-friendly. In fact, artificial grass is designed to be durable, weather-resistant, and easy to clean, making it a great choice for pet owners who want a yard that is safe and comfortable for dogs.
Yes, it requires minimal maintenance. You can remove leaf debris by hand or with ablower, and rinse off high pet areas with a hose as needed to keep the turf fresh. Pet deodorizer can be added occasionally to minimize pet odors.
Quality turf typically lasts 10–15 years with proper installation and care.
